Tuesday Explorer ride : a virtual ride on Zwift due to rain

  • Virtual ride - on Zwift

This week only, no outside ride due to rain - but we're doing a virtual ride on Zwift instead.
The Muckle Yin
https://www.zwift.com/events/view/3610772

Join us at 9 am on Tuesday 3/22 for 2 laps of “The Muckle Yin“ in Scotland. 14.7 miles and 925’ per lap. The ride is open to all, but join the BCCCSB Club on Zwift so that you don’t miss an opportunity for future Club rides on Zwift.

Leveraging a detailed write up from Dale, here's some pre ride prep:

1. Allow time for an update
Zwift has a habit of wanting to download a gigantor update right when you start it. It would be a good idea to fire up Zwift app ahead of time - like tonight -  and let it do any update in the queue.

2. Sign up for the ride

Well before the ride: (eg, tonight)

Using the Zwift Companion App (on phone) click on "Clubs" at bottom, click on BCCCSB, then you should see Tuesday's group ride "BCCCsb Tuesday Rainy Explorers Ride". Click on that and it will show a summary of the ride - map, distance elevation, etc. Click on the red box with the plus sign and it changes to green with a check.

The day of the ride:

3. Sign in:
Sign into the Zwift program on Tuesday well before 9 AM. Give yourself enough time to sort out sensor connections etc. The group ride should show in the second row of items on the screen. You can either click on that and be taken to the start pen for the ride, or go ahead and select anywhere to ride to warm up prior to 9 AM.

4. Ready to ride
There will be a count down timer at the bottom of the screen showing how long until the start of the ride. Click on Join to be transported to the ride start pen. You can pedal along on a trainer (within the trainer, lol) until the ride start at 9 AM when the trainers go away and the riders start off.

I have no idea how well we will be able to communicate within the Zwift app, but we're giving it a go. Feedback welcome on improving this for our next Virtual ride.

After ride:
Coffee/food at noon at Sweet Wheat in Redondo (PCH)
